What types of services are included in CESI’s adult day health programs?
CESI’s adult day health programs operate Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm (with Saturday hours at our Arlington Center, which are currently on-hold given Covid-19 safety protocols).  They provide a safe, structured day time environment which includes: comprehensive nursing care; recreation program; service coordination; specialized memory care; Registered Dietician-approved nutrition and hydration; and caregiver support.  For more information, visit the Services page of our website.

What is the cost of CESI’s adult day health program?  Are there resources available to help with reimbursement?
The cost of CESI’s six-hour long day programs ranges, depending upon a participant’s health care needs (as determined by his/her physician). A full day of service at CESI is roughly 3 times less than the cost of a home health aide, and significantly lower than the cost of care in a nursing home setting.

Seniors and adults with medical or cognitive challenges may be eligible for reimbursement for CESI’s adult day health programs by: MassHealth, State Home Care, the Veteran’s Administration, and some long-term care insurances.  CESI also accepts private pay for services.  During the intake process, CESI staff works with participants/caregivers to identify eligibility for reimbursement programs. For more information on rates and to talk through options, please call 781-863-1166 ext. 104 to reach our referral line.

Are transportation services available?
Yes.  CESI coordinates with vendors to secure door-to-door transportation in accessible vans for participants who request it.  Transportation services are provided at an additional cost to the fee for CESI’s adult day health programming.  The transportation vendors charge the MassHealth rate for services, which varies depending on the center.  Transportation services may be reimbursed by some insurance types, such as MassHealth, SCOs, VA, and ASAPs.  Identifying and meeting participants’ transportation needs is part of CESI’s intake process for new participants.

What type of nursing care is provided at CESI’s centers?
CESI’s centers are staffed by Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who are available on site at all times and are responsible for overseeing the health needs of CESI participants.  Upon a participant’s admission, CESI nurses complete a physical and mental status assessment, which is used to develop an individualized care plan; monthly assessments are provided to promote good health and optimum functioning.  CESI nurses maintain contact with each participant’s health care provider, and administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician. Referrals can also be arranged for Physical and Occupational Therapists and mental health specialists to meet with participants on site.

What types of activities are offered during the day?
The goal of CESI’s recreation program is to provide an environment in which seniors and adults with medical or cognitive challenges socialize with peers, participate in meaningful activities, exercise their minds and bodies, and have fun, CESI organizes the following activities for participants, among others: Exercise (e.g., chair yoga), arts and crafts, adaptive touch screen technology, live music, cooking classes, gardening, current events and news, trivia, games, animal therapy, poetry and book groups, and celebrations.  All activities are overseen by CESI’s Occupational Therapist and activities professionals, to ensure that each participant’s needs and interests are met, and to maximize participation.  To see an example of a daily schedule at CESI, click here.  Or visit the page one of our centers to see this month’s activities calendar.

Does the program serve individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease?
CESI programming is tailored to meet the specialized needs of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.  Specialized memory care services include small group activities, close supervision at meal time, caregiver support, and failure-free recreation activities.  Failure-free activities are designed to target long-term memory and allow participants to use their remaining cognitive skills while enhancing self-esteem and dignity.  Each CESI center has a separate program room for participants who are best served by a quieter, less stimulating environment.  CESI staff receives on-going education in the best practices of Alzheimer’s care, including sensory stimulation strategies, specialized communication techniques, and behavioral interventions.  CESI’s centers have passcode- or badge-controlled entries, to ensure that participants who are inclined to wander remain secure.

How does a person sign up for CESI’s adult day health programs?
To begin the enrollment process, please contact CESI here.  We will help you to identify which CESI center is the right location for you, answer any questions you may have, and schedule a tour for you of a CESI center.  Prior to your/your loved one’s first day at a CESI center, a doctor’s order must be obtained, and necessary paperwork must be completed.
